Lake houses fail indoors more often than out. The view does the talking, the rooms go quiet, and within five years the interiors feel like a hotel someone once liked. Emerald & Oak works against that — slowly, and with materials rather than statements.
The studio's language is consistent: white oak and rift-sawn millwork, honed stone that takes a wet glass without complaint, plaster instead of paint where the light will rake across it, and lighting layered in four or five circuits so a room can be a breakfast room and an evening room without changing furniture.
Because the studio is usually engaged before framing, the architecture and the interiors arrive together. Window heads align with cabinetry. Returns and registers disappear. It is invisible work, and it is the difference between a house that photographs well once and a house that is still comfortable on its tenth winter.
